In total, our websites already include more than 20.000 member restaurants.
As an intermediary between the consumer and the restaurant, we make ordering food online accessible to all, both consumers and restaurateurs. We believe that to achieve our objective of becoming one of the largest sites to order food in the world, we must pass on all our orders to the restaurant within the shortest time, with efficiency and reliability.
To achieve our objective and to develop and optimize our website we have more than 30 employees work every day full-time employees and 50 others with us part time. Takeaway.com invests considerable time in developing its website, its mobile applications and its control system.
Our Purpose and Vision
We aim to provide our customers (consumers and restaurants) a service for ordering food online that is quick, easy to use and reliable. Our website is clear and practical which allows customers to place their order with only a few clicks of the mouse. After this, the customer can sit back and relax and enjoy their meal delivered at home.
We also stress great importance of the techniques used to communicate the orders to the restaurants. This should be fast and effective for the restaurant while being 100% reliable. We take great care in ensuring all technical aspects of this are monitored, from the online menu to the sending of the order to the restaurant with the method selected by the restaurant. We also offer each restaurant promotional material and the chance to enjoy all our advertising on TV, radio, magazine and of course online.
The idea behind the website was born in 1999 in a small village in the Netherlands, during a family celebration. Director Groen Jitse wanted to order food and thought he could find a restaurant with home delivery service on the internet. The only result was posted on the internet a list of restaurants in Amsterdam. It is from this point that the idea of creating a website for online ordering involving a maximum of restaurants was born. He undertook this project and the day after the domain name of Thuisbezorgd.nl was registered.
In 2000 the website was officially launched. Since the arrival of broadband internet in 2003, the company has made a huge step forward and bought its only competitor Pizzaweb.nl in 2005. Since 2007, the company has expanded its services internationally by launching its website in several countries such as the United Kingdom, Germany, Britain, Belgium, Austria, France, Switzerland and Denmark. Initially, the international name of the company was Citymeal, but in 2009 it was decided to further develop the activities under the name Takeaway.com.
